I have been teaching English using the internet for approximately 10 years via Skype. My students are Korean, Chinese, Japanese as well as some originating from Middle East countries.
Teaching online has become incredibly gratifying, I've made good friends from the students I'm teaching. Quite a few have traveled to my hometown to visit me. |
Speak... talk... make sounds...whatever you do, without speaking you will never make it. So, start speaking to build fluency. Don't be scared to make mistakes, refrain from making the same errors the next time you speak. It would be great if you have someone to speak with. Speaking to yourself while you're taking a shower or even in front of the mirror is better than not speaking. Thinking aloud is an effective way to practice. Give voice to your thoughts and reproduce your thoughts in loud English speech.
Learn idioms, vocabulary, and common English expressions consistently. It would be excellent if you have someone to speak with. Create a word bank with new words and dedicate time to learn those words and use them in your speaking and writing practice systematically.
Laugh! It's easier to speak and learn English while you are having fun. But don't try to translate jokes literally from your language into English, believe me it's not so funny at all. Think in English and speak in English, because jokes are funnier if you do it that way. Enjoy learning English, relax, and have someone to speak with. Practice commonly used phrases in English, so that you may use them with the same confidence as you use your language. Then add to those phrases in order to create complete sentences.
